Abstract
Chapter 1: This chapter introduces the reader with the genesis and significance of carbohydrates in various life processes, their classifications on the basis of structural aspects and application in modern-day therapeutics. Chapter 2: In this chapter, mechanism of glycosylation and use of different donors/acceptors and promoter systems for efficient stereo- and regioselectivity are discussed with emphasis on, thioglycosides and glycosyl trichloroacetimidates. Chapter 3: This chapter illustrates the chemical adventure towards the chemical synthesis of the pentasaccharide repeating unit of the O-antigen from Hafnia lavei strain PCM 1188. Preparations of different rationally protected monosaccharide derivatives and the glycosylation reactions are elaborated in detail. The judicious planning to deal with the remaining challenge is discussed as future work. Chapter 4: This chapter shows 1H, 13C NMR, COSY, HSQC data of the newly synthesized compound
