Abstract

In this project I have built an equilibrium chemistry model called NEXOCHEM (Next generation EXOplanet equilibrium CHEMistry model) to find out the atmospheric composition of exoplanets. This model uses Gibbs minimization method to find the final atmospheric composition of the planet. The model can then be incorporated into a retrieval model to fit the observed transmission spectra coming from an exoplanet. This chemical model is completely written in Python with a user-friendly interface. CPU parallelization is integrated to make the code run faster. The biggest advantage of this mode is its fast, flexible, and the user can easily add any custom molecule data to it. Using NEXOCHEM, I solved the atmosphere of our solar system planet Jupiter and then applied it to other planets such as WASP-39b and WASP-12b exoplanets.
