Abstract

Arylazopyrazoles are azo-based photoswitches that have been established not only as superior photoswitches than conventional azobenzenes but also are well known for their highly stable cis isomer at room temperature. The main focus of this work is on investigating the thermal stability of the metastable cis form of arylazopyrazoles with different substituent effects, including π − π stacking. Preliminary findings reflect upon the interactions responsible for the different thermal half-lives of the cis form as well as their switching times upon irradiation with light of suitable wavelength.
