Abstract

In this thesis, we report the microwave synthesis of ligand free PbMoO₄: Eu³⁺ nanoparticles, prepared from the addition of non- stoichiometric precursors. Their charged surfaces make them highly dispersible in water due to repulsive interaction. Incorporation of Eu³⁺ ions into the PbMoO₄ matrix is confirmed by strong red emission upon ultraviolet (UV) excitation of the nanoparticles. PbMoO₄ turns out to be a good host for lanthanide ions as intense emission is observed for all the samples. Efficient photocatalytic activity of these nanoparticles evaluated via degradation of Rhodamine B dye proves that they have prospective role in “green” technology.
