Abstract

Current cancer therapies include surgical resection of tumour, chemo and radiation therapy. The primary drawback of conventional chemotherapy using cytotoxic drugs is the bystander toxicity on normal healthy cells. We have designed and successfully synthesized a PEO-SS- PCL- DOXI copolymer, which can be used as a nanocarrier for intracellular sustained delivery of the antitumor drug DOXI. Most importantly, DOXI, are efficiently conjugated to the biodegradable polymeric backbone. The resulting DOXI conjugated nanocarrier is expected to give controlled and pHresponsive drug-release profile. The importance of having the acylhydrazine linker which helps to release the drug at the mild acidic condition can be explored. We envision that our newly designed bio-degradable nanocarrier may open up a new avenue for more effective cancer therapy.
