Abstract
This dissertation investigates the phocatalytic behavior of oxometalate based catalysts in different catalytic processes. Oxometalates are touted for their redox reversibility, easy accessibility and energy storage ability, which are desirable qualities in a photocatalyst. Additionally, they are eco-friendly and green in nature. The enhanced photoredox activity of Keggin polyoxometalate have been exploited to insert CO₂ into terminal C-H bond using oxometalates under unprecedented mild conditions. Further, as a part of our ongoing research, we had synergistically couple visible light driven organic reaction with CO₂ reduction in order to produce industrially relevant chemical precursors along with low emission fuels. In order to develop catalytically more relevant systems, we designed aerobic oxidation pathway from benzene to phenol at ambient pressure and temperature which could circumvent the requirement of high pressure and harsh acidic conditions in existing industrially acknowledged cumene process using decavanadate as a catalyst and organic dye as a photosensitizer.
