Abstract
The thesis first covered a general introduction to the lanthanides (Ln3+), their characteristic properties, up-to-date literature review on lanthanide-doped fluoride nanoparticles: synthetic techniques and application, our objectives. Then, it illustrated synthesis, structural and optical properties of Ln3+-doped alkaline earth metal based (Ca2+ and Ba2+) fluorides nanocrystals. Later, it deals with Ln3+-doped BaLuF5 ultrasmall sized nanocrystals and realization of upconversion processes via inter particle energy transfer (IPET). The development of Ln3+-doped heavy metal based fluoride nanocrystals: synthesis, structural and optical characteristics was discussed later. The present work, then deals with how the use of different fluoride source affects the crystalline phase, morphology and optical properties of Eu3+-doped YF3 microcrystals. It also demonstrated the application of Eu3+-doped KZnF3 luminescent nanoparticles for the selective sensing of Cu2+ ions.
