Abstract
The thesis reports the instrumentation of a broadband microwave spectrometer operating in the frequency range of 10 MHz to 24 GHz using symmetries of Corbino geometry. A vector network analyser and a custom made coaxial cable assembly, designed for the purpose has been used to study microwave response down to 62 K. Methods to calibrate the system so as to exactly quantify the results have also been reported. The spectroscope has been successfully used to demonstrate AC response of high temperature superconductor across its transition temperature. Details of preparation of superconducting sample and MATLAB algorithms used to analyse the data are given in the Appendices. Further, the system has also been employed to investigate microwave response of topological insulator materials. Qualitative signatures of the existence of surface states has been obtained which requires further analysis for appropriate quantification.
