Abstract
Designer peptides can give rise to a variety of supramolecular structures, which have potential importance in biological as well as material sciences. Previous studies suggested that the self-assembled peptide based materials can be decorated with colour, metal nanoperticles and semiconductor quantum dots, to fabricate advance functional materials for optoelectronics. Two compounds have been designed and constructed which can recognize fluoride and acetate anion and nitroaromatics. The present work represents the synthesis of compounds containing m-nitrobenzoic acid and semicarbazide by solution phase methods, their characterization by NMR, FT-IR and Mass spectrometry. The FTIR study exhibits that the compound has extended hydrogen bonded structure. Moreover, the compound 1 can acts as sensor for fluoride and acetate ions. On recognition of fluoride and acetate ions, a red colour appeared. Hence the compound can be used as turn on sensor for fluoride and acetate ions. The synthesis of dipeptides containing tryptophan and tyrosine by solution phase methods, their characterization by NMR, FT-IR and Mass spectrometry, their morphological studies by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy were also undertken in this study. The FT-IR study exhibits that the peptide has kink like structure. Moreover, the peptide 1 can acts as detector for nitroaromatics. On recognition of picric acid, a red colour appeared. Hence the compound can be used as turn on sensor for nitroaromatics. This dipeptde may have potential application in the fabrication of explosive detector devices.
