Abstract
In this thesis, we attempted deriving the equation of motion of the dynamics of open quantum systems in different contexts. These are done from the perspectives of closed and open quantum systems. Later, it dealt with the description of decoherence dynamics in terms of the so-called master equations, like Born-Markov Master Equation etc. We also attempted to solve the spin-boson model. We also examined the two exactly solvable models of decoherence - central spin system, (i) with and (ii) without a self-Hamiltonian, interacting with a collection of environment spins. Later, it introduced a completely general formalism for rep- resenting the in uence of the environment on the reduced density matrix of the system, without any reference to the particular form of the Hamiltonian. This is called the operator-sum formalism/Kraus representation of the dynamics of evolution of the reduced density matrix of the system of interest.
