Abstract
A new phenalenyl-based chiral ligand, 9-N-methylamino-1-N'-(S)-(-)-α-methylbenzylamino-phenalene, has been synthesized in high yield. The reaction of CuCl2 with chiral phenalenyl-based ligand, 9-N-methylamino-1-N'-(S)-(-)-α-methylbenzylamino-phenalene in 1:1 ratio results in the formation of chiral copper complex. That complex efficiently catalyzes the C-C bond forming Henry reaction, between nitroalkane and aldehydes, with high yields (up to 90%) and moderate enantioselectivites (up to 80%).
