Abstract
This thesis covers a general study on the dehydrogenative coupling of heteroarenes mainly using palladium (II) catalyst bearing abnormal NHC backbone. Through this work, we show that (aNHC)PdX dimer is a very active catalyst in dehydrogenative coupling reactions. It could activate the C–H bond of a wide range of heteroarenes, which include benzothiazole, benzoxazole, thiophene, furan, and N-methyl benzimidazole. Thus our catalyst is quite versatile in performing coupling reactions over a wide range of substrates. Further, it showed good activity even for a 1 mol% catalyst loading. Further, it exhibited good activity in the presence of different functional groups such as CN, CHO, Me, OMe, OAc, Cl etc., which is quite difficult to achieve with a single catalytic system. Apart from this it could achieve a good C-2 position selectivity in all the cases without compromising the yield. These promising results provide us confidence to proceed further with dehydrogenative heterocoupling reactions in the near future. These features promise a wide range of applications for (aNHC)PdX dimer in the field of bi-aryl synthesis. We look forward to exploiting these properties of our catalyst to enhance the synthesis of various drugs, enabling their commercial production in an economic and efficient manner.
