Abstract

Crystal engineering has emerged as the most advanced aspect of solid state chemistry owing to its numerous applications in diverse fields. In this context, I tried to explore the broad spectrum of crystal engineering implications in designing new solid forms with desired properties. Chapter 1 provides a brief overview about crystal engineering and its various applications. Chapter 2 describes about a crystal engineering approach to design multicomponent solid form of a poorly soluble drug, hydrochlorothiazide so as to tune its poor physicochemical properties. Chapter 3 demonstrates a study of isomorphism in multicomponent solids of mefenamic acid and tolfenamic acid and using the resulting crystal structural landscape for finding the hidden forms of the parent APIs. Chapter 4 describes about the structure-mechanical property relationship of three polymorphs of a Schiff base of isatin. Further, the thermal responses were investigated for the three polymorphs.
