Abstract

In this thesis we describe a general procedure for the formation of asymmetric stilbene derivatives, from phenylacetic acid and aryl aldehydes. It is a transition metal free, mild reaction condition protocol which provides a yield of up to 62%. The organocatalyst cat 1 ( (S)-2-Phenyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole) and cat 2 (2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole) which we have synthesized did not required for the protocol this protocol to work. It is also proposed that diisopropylethylamine acts as a catalyst as well as a base.
