Abstract
It is shown that ricinoleic acid capped Er/Yb doped BaLuF5 nanoparticles exhibit strong upconversion luminescence in the green and the red region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The green to red emission ratio was selectively tuned with the gradual addition of a conducting polymer which absorbs strongly in the green region. The intensity of the green emission decreases more than the red one. The selective quenching is confirmed by studying the upconversion luminescence of the nanoparticle with the addition of a polymer which absorbs more in the red region. This selective tuning is also achieved by varying the applied voltage to an ITO surface coated with the nanoparticle and polymer. The red shift in the absorption spectrum of the polymers due to the formation of polaron and bi-polaron is reflected in the upconversion luminescence of the Er/Yb doped BaLuF5 nanoparticles.
