Abstract

The aim of the thesis was originally to learn Functional Renormalization, and apply it to a condensed matter system. Since it required a lot of basics the work was limited to learning Renormalization in Quatum Field Theory. The Wilsonian RG procedures after the Mode elimination and the Rescaling step, yields an action which is of the same form as the original action but with different coupling constants. Functional renormalization uses partition functions, which are generating functions of the n point vertex function we dealt with in the previous section, for its flow calculations. The Callen Symanzik equation actually is the differential equation which tells us that how the vertex function change which the coupling constants analogous to what we have in the Wilsonian scenario. Therefore Callan-Symanzik equation and the equations for the β, and ɣ are the basic ingredients for the Functional renormalization ow. I intend to go forward learning the Functional Renormalization even after the submission of the thesis, as it seems to be very helpful in calculations of quantities in particle physics, condensed matter systems and hopefully more.
