Abstract

Non heme biomimetic iron complexes bearing tetradentate N-atom electron donating ligands show great promise for aliphatic C-H bond oxidation though several challenges still hinder their wide spread application. Challenges like recycling, reusability, dimerization and degradation of catalyst via auto-oxidation has been addressed in this report. The thesis reports the study of catalytic work of [FeIII(bTAML-NO₂)]²⁻catalyst with various substrates for both aliphatic C-H bond hydroxylation and C=O epoxidation in heterogeneous mediums. Dowex resin and Mg-Al-Cl Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) have been the chosen supports for immobilization of catalyst. The Mg-Al-Cl Layered Double Hydroxide was synthesized via co-precipitation method. The synthesized sample was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Energy dispersive Spectrophotometer (EDS). The catalyst loaded supports were further characterized using FT-IR and Ultra-violet visual Spectrophotometer (UV-vis). The catalytic oxidations of various substrates by both the loaded supports were measured via Gas chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometer (GC-MS) with proper standardization. The report concludes with the comparison of the catalytic work between both the supports where LDH proves to be a better catalyst support than Dowex.
