Abstract
The main purpose of the thesis is to understand the most significant reasons behind cellular oscillations observed during the initial phases of Drosophila Dorsal closure, which is a developmental phase of Drosophila (fruit fly). A well-studied simple model for single cell is used to understand the most important factors behind cell oscillation. Then the study is extended to understand cellular oscillation when cells are interacting with each other. The main focus of the study is to understand how cell dynamics changes if the cell is connected with other cells and embedded in an extra-cellular matrix. This study focuses on understanding the effect of frictional force from extra-cellular matrix, the effect of diffusion of particles through connected cells and also effect of non-linear elasticity of the cells. This thesis uses numerical simulations, analytical calculation and physical reasoning to show and explain the change of dynamics from isolated cells to interacting cells. Also it is observed that changing the number of interacting cells changes the cell or tissue dynamics significantly. The findings of this study can be useful in curing developmental irregularities.
