Abstract

A rhodamine-based polymeric chemosensor for copper ion has been designed. This chemosensor is designed based on the well-known equilibrium of Rhodamine-B. The spirolactam (non-fluorescenct) to ring-open amide (fluorescent) formation has been shown in this work. The monomer precursors 1 and 2 has been synthesized and the characterization has been made through ¹H NMR spectroscopy. Further steps on superior synthesis models are on process. Finally, we will synthesize our desired polymeric chemosensor, and will monitor its sensitivity and selectivity towards the detection Cu²⁺ ion in aqueous medium by virtue of UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy.
