Abstract

The Himalaya is the world’s largest active tectonic belt, the result of crustal shortening. Due to crustal shortening, major southward foreland propagating thrusts e.g. Main Central Thrust (MCT), Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) and Main Frontal Thrust (MFT) is created. This active movement has changes the river morphology and the landscape of the piedmonts fan. Study of river morphology can help in quantifying the amount of change. So, for understanding changes in river morphology, geomorphic indices is used and Optical Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating for dating the tectonic event in the region. Studied geomorphic indices indicates the recent active tectonic except hypsometric curve (HC) and hypsometric integral (HI). Channel sediment and few terrace sediments were dated using OSL. A succession of deposits were dated in a single scarp providing 29 ka (bottom most), 25 ka and 9 ka (top unit). Small-scale faulting in middle layer has occurred after 25 ka and shows that most recent fault in this section occurred at or around 25-29 ka.
