Abstract

This work studies the propagation of gravitational waves in a Kerr background, within the framework of Linearized Theory of Gravitational Waves. Necessary calculations of Linearized Theory of Gravity are reproduced to set up the gravitational wave equation by perturbing a general curved background. Assuming the wave to be propagating along the equatorial plane of a Kerr blackhole in Boyer Lindquist representation, the final wave equations are derived. The solutions for the equations are obtained by implying extremal horizon limit of the Kerr blackhole for further simplification. The solution is compared with a wave propagating in a flat background. A comparison is also made for solutions obtained for two values of the mass of the blackhole and the implications are discussed.
