Abstract
In the present experiment we have synthesised Ag NCs coated with BSA to investigate their protective effect on the protein from the adverse effects of UVC radiation. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of BSA with and without the Ag NCs showed that the protein unfolding and subsequent aggregation due to UVC exposure could be appreciably resisted. Moreover, the protective effect was observed to enhance on application of certain concentration of glucose to the BSA coated over the Ag NCs. The results were compared with similar protective effect of Au NCs that we showed in an earlier report. Ag NCs were found to provide about 8% more protection compared to the Au NCs. Hence, through this work we could provide a much inexpensive solution to physiological protection of a model protein from UVC radiation using Ag NCs. The research is expected to provide important inputs to pharmaceutical and environmental research in the present scenario of extensive depletion of the ozone layer in the stratosphere of the earth.
