Abstract
The research work presented here involves synthesis and characterization of different nitrogen mustard based organic compounds in order to relate the stability vs. cytotoxicity. The modifications are done on an aldehyde group functionalized to vary the electron withdrawing ability. The study on stability and cytotoxicity is done to probe the effect of variation in withdrawal of electron from the nitrogen atom of the mustard motif with different kind of modifications that can reduce the electron density from nitrogen atom of nitrogen mustard. The studies include the effect of incorporation of a transition metal which shows that there is excellent cytotoxicity obtained upon this modification of coordination by a Ni(II). We have checked stability of every compounds in phosphate buffer (pH=7.4) and found that compound 2 and 3 are stable in phosphate buffer. We have also checked cytotoxicity in triple negative MDA MB 231 cell line, and found compound 3, 4 and 6 are toxic in micro molar concentration. The cytotoxicity of the Ni(II) complex, 6, is the highest in the series.
