Abstract
π-conjugated organic materials have wide applications in solar cells, electroluminescence, pharmaceutical products, and organic optoelectronics. π-conjugated organic materials show concentration quenching in the aggregated state. To overcome this a new class of cyano substituted π-conjugated organic materials have been developed i.e; cyanostilbene, which show enhancement in fluorescence intensity upon aggregation. Two different series of cationic N-alkylated cyanostilbene derivatives were synthesized, which exhibit enhanced fluorescence emission upon aggregate formation. The unsymmetric cyanostilbene derivatives show increase in fluorescence intensity in aqueous media, while the fluorescence intensity quenched in non-aqueous media upon 365 nm UV irradiation.
