Abstract

The work presented in this report attempts to delve in the interface between some concepts in Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Optics. It attempts to apply some concepts in Foundations to non-classical states of light. Maximal advantage in two-way communication via maximal violation of an inequality associated with the `Guess Your Neighbour's Input' game has been theoretically and experimentally established quite recently using a single-photon two-mode entangled state. We argue that such a maximal advantage can be achieved using single-mode non-classicality, embedded in a two-mode entangled state, called the generalized NOON state, irrespective of the average photon number of the state, which in principle can be made to be very small. The same state furnishes violation of Bell-type inequality without using a shared reference frame. The usage of generalized NOON states is tested under models of noisy apparatuses (beam splitters and photo detectors). We also establish that any single mode non-classical state which can be written as finite superposition of Fock states can in fact be cast in the form of generalized NOON states to furnish a violation of the inequality associated with the `Guess Your Neighbour's Input Game'.
